If you’re a Boston area college student, chances are you’ve been to Harvard Square. Harvard Square is a hub of activity. There are always college kids running around, artists selling their work, musicians playing, and much more. It’s a place that simply bursts with positive energy.
Of course, what would a college hot spot be without incredible food? Harvard Square has it all: Italian, Mexican, American, Chinese, Korean, you name it. You can get virtually any cuisine. There’s a great restaurant for any meal of the day.
Whether you’re a sucker for traditional American fare or you love to try dishes from exotic locations, you’ll love the restaurants on this list. Here are the hot spots that every Boston college student should try at least once.
1. Felipe’s Mexican Taqueria

Felipe’s is my go-to for a filling lunch or a satisfying late night snack. Felipe’s serves delicious burritos, tacos, quesadillas, and more. Their ingredients are always fresh and the staff makes your meal right in front of you! Felipe’s has a bar, two indoor floors, outdoor seating, and a roof deck available for use in the summertime.
2. Mr. Bartley’s Gourmet Burgers
I went to Bartley’s for the first time when I was 12, and I keep going back. Bartley’s has absolutely delicious burgers and savory fries. They give their burgers unique oh-so-Boston names like “MBTA” and “Taxachusetts.” You’re guaranteed a great meal and a good laugh at Bartley’s.
3. Lizzy’s Ice Cream
Okay, maybe this one isn’t a restaurant, but it’s a spot you don’t want to miss. Lizzy’s has some of the best ice cream I’ve ever tasted. Their portion sizes are huge! You can count on Lizzy’s for yummy ice cream, delicious cones, and generous toppings.
4. Bonchon Chicken
If you like Korean food, you’ve probably been to Bonchon before. Fortunately, there are plenty of locations (quite a few in Massachusetts)! If you love fried chicken, you have to go to Bonchon. Bonchon double fries its chicken and offers an assortment of flavors, from garlic to spicy! The restaurant also serves plenty of authentic Korean dishes, BBQ, soup, rice, and noodles.
5. Pinocchio’s Pizza & Subs
All I can say is…YUM! Pinocchio’s serves enormous slices of pizza and has a great menu! They serve pizza, pasta, salads, and subs. Their Sicilian pizzas are thick and savory. They’re open late on both weekdays and weeknights and are perfect for a late night snack or a quick bite.
If you’ve been to Harvard Square and I missed your favorite snack spot, let me know! I’m always looking to try new restaurants. And, if you’ve been to any of the above restaurants, let me know your favorite order!
Xoxo,
Jenn
